Oatmeal and Tupelo Honey Soap

As promised, here's a picture of the oatmeal and honey soap I made on Saturday.

I know, not the best picture, but I just moved all of the curing soaps 

from my bathroom to the utility room (which has no windows, so good lighting is non-existent). 

It's unscented, and has ground oatmeal mixed in the bar (and on top, as well). This soap also contains honey, even better, it's local Tupelo honey. Tupelo honey is delicately-flavored, and is produced from the White Ogeechee Tupelo tree with the center of production located in Northwest Florida. 

Honey increases lather in soap and acts as a natural humectant, while oatmeal exfoliates and is great for soothing irritated and dry skin. I'm really looking forward to trying out this soap in a few weeks when it's ready to use. But, next time I make it, I'm going to grind up the oatmeal that's in the soap a little finer so it's easier to cut in to bars. 

I've ordered several new fragrances and oils, which means we have quite a few new soaps to try out. The new fragrances are:

Beau Brummel Cybilla (I'm a big Regency fan, so I can't wait to make use of this scent)

Plus, ingredients to make a loofah soap, a shaving soap, and a facial soap.

With all of the soap making we'll be doing in the near future, it's a good thing I just bought a new (and much needed) set of shelves to cure the bars on.

The curing shelves loaded down with 58 bars of soap, plus samples and soap balls.

We used to cure the soaps in my bathroom, but let me tell you, the counter top was getting a little crowded. Needless to say, I'm super proud of the new shelves. It's hard to believe that both Mom and I were nervous Nellies when we made that very first batch of soap. Now, it seems like a breeze. All in all, what I enjoy the most is the creative aspect of it - I love looking at the different colorants and additives and figuring out what to try next.
