Sometimes, I really do think we have some completely weird animals. Then again, they do say that animals are a reflection of their owners so. . . So, hmmm. Let me change that, we absolutely do not under any circumstances have weird animals. Not at all. Even though we have a sheep that is besties with a donkey, a goose that thinks she's a duck, a goat that tried to romance Myrtle the donkey this summer (and failed miserably. . . she laughed at Wynngate's attempt at a pickup line).
And then there are the ducks. I could probably devote this entire blog to the shenanigans our ducks get up to and never run out of material.
The latest development is that they have once again found the pond. Yep, you read right, once again. (they previously found it in the first Welcome to the Funny Farm post almost two years ago).
Now, you may be thinking, "Found the pond? They're ducks," and you would be right, that's exactly my line of thinking, too. But in reality, or our little farm's version of it, only a few of our ducks visit the pond. That would be the Rouens, Grandma and Grandpa the Jumbo Pekins, the Muscovies, and Susan the Pekin.
Scovies enjoying the water.
The Rouen boys.
Then, yesterday, I happened to look out the window, and to my surprise, what do I see? But every single one of them thoroughly enjoying themselves in the pond (minus the gray Indian Runners, that is, who reside in the large duck/goose pen).
I'm happy they have rediscovered it (and found their way to it again today, too), but quite frankly, if it were me I would choose to begin visiting the pond in the sweltering dog days of summer, not frigid December. Well maybe frigid is taking it a little too far, but the high was in the fifties Friday and it was a little on the chilly side (although, today's high was a practically balmy seventy-something). No matter, I'm just glad they're enjoying it again. After all, that's why we have a pond, right? And for the catfish, too. Can't forget them.
