Spoon Swirled Soap.

A new technique that I tried out this week is spoon swirling. It's super easy and produces a fun pattern with each bar being unique. And it may just be my new favorite soap making technique.

Essentially spoon swirling is drizzling the soap into the mold using a small spoon while alternating colors. That's something I haven't mentioned, yet - you need at least two different colors to do this technique and of course, a fragrance oil or essential oil that doesn't accelerate, seize, do anything else unwanted as this does take a little bit of time to do. And even though it is a little time consuming, the effect the spoon swirling creates is well worth it.

Once you have the soap at a light trace, divide it into two different containers (or three, four, ever how many colors you want to do) and blend in the colorants. The soap I did was scented with Monkey Farts, and I wanted to use two of the new colorants that had just come in (Yellow Oxide and Coral Reef Blue Mica - love this color, by the way, it's absolutely gorgeous).

Using a small spoon (I used two disposable spoons, one for each color - if you use a metal spoon, make sure that it's stainless steel), drizzle the soap into the mold. I did five spoonfuls of the first color, then five of the next.

Repeat this process until all of the soap is in the mold or until as much of it as you want is in the mold. I stopped when I had a little bit of each color left over. Then I did one single layer of yellow with the blue mounded on top of that and texturized a little.

Next on my list to try was ombre soap (also sometimes called, gradient, graduated, or gradated soap), which we did today. I'm a little nervous to see how it turns out.
