Just a reminder. . .

Just a little reminder to any other Alabama goat owners:

On January 1, 2013 the new animal identification laws passed by the state of Alabama went into effect. It's especially important for goat owners in the state to read the laws and be aware of the new requirements.

According to the informational pamphlet that the Alabama Meat Goat & Sheep Producers sent us, registered goats with legible registry tattoos accompanied by a registry certificate do not require tags if their tattoo is registered as a unique entity with the breed registry and the USDA, APHIS, VS office. However, all other goats that change owners (this includes transportation to an auction or slaughter facility), as well as, sexually intact goats before transportation to petting zoos, fairs, shows, exhibitions, and all goats transported to or within the states of Florida, Mississippi, Michigan, or Pennsylvania do require ear tags. Wow, that was a mouthful lol.

You can obtain both the tags and the applicators free by calling the Alabama USDA, APHIS, VS office at 1-334-657-5549 or 1-866-USDA-TAG (1-866-873-2824) or by filling out and mailing the form located here.
