Lip Balm

For years, I've had a secret addiction that few people know about. . . Lip Balm!

You're probably thinking, "Lip balm? How can someone be addicted to that?", but it's true. You really can be addicted to lip balm. From what I understand, the chemicals in commercial lip balms can cause a dependency in certain people, and I guess I'm one of them. If I were to go all day long without applying any at all, my lips would be bright red and peeling. . . not a pleasant sight.

And while I don't think I'll ever be able to quit (besides, as far as addictions go, this isn't exactly the worst one to have), I would like to switch to a more natural, non-mentholated product. So, I scoured the internet, and found this recipe:

Ingredients:
1 oz Sweet Almond Oil (or any other good liquid oil, such as, olive, apricot kernel, avocado, etc)
.25 oz Castor Oil
.25 oz Shea Butter
.5 oz Beeswax
.25 oz Coconut Oil
2 ml Flavoring Oil (I chose Monkey Farts)
Lip Balm Containers (I chose these, here)
Disposable Pipettes

1) Combine the sweet almond and castor oils, beeswax, and coconut oil in a heat safe container and heat in the microwave for about 2 minutes. Stir the mixture after the first minute has passed.

2) Once the beeswax has completely melted, add the shea butter and stir. The shea butter should melt from the heat of the wax and oils, but if it doesn't return the mixture to the microwave for an additional 30 seconds, then continue to stir until it's completely melted.

3) Once the mixture has melted, add 2 ml of flavoring oil using a disposable pipette. Make sure to stir in the flavoring completely.

4) If you're using lip balm tubes (like I did), then use a disposable pipette to fill each tube full. Allow the lip balm to cool and harden completely, then pop the cap on.

Waiting to put the caps on.

The lip balms I made are flavored with Monkey Farts, and they smell just like a ripe banana.
